The Northern Crossing is on Saturday 18 May 2013. Three of us are entering the short course option - The Top Energy Missionary Trail.
Abilene Garden Motel is nearest to the finish line at Kerikeri Landing, next to The Pear Tree. We offer convenient affordable accommodation, and are only a short walk if you want to enjoy a few beers at the prize giving.
I’m helping out with the start of the Missionary Trial, and will then be doing the 30k bike ride from Kaikohe to Waipapa.
It is going to be a great day. See you there.

fairytale?”.

Cape Reinga has been voted New Zealander’s third most special place in a survey to mark Conservation Week, which kicked off yesterday.
The Department of Conservation surveyed 1100 people for its “Quintessentially Kiwi” survey in time for Conservation Week and asked people to vote for their favourite native bird, special place and native plants.
Cape Reinga – where in Maori mythology the headland is the jumping off point of the spirits of the dead who then climb down the roots of an 800-year-old tree on their journey to their homeland of Hawaiiki – came third behind Stewart Island and Fiordland, with 17 per cent of the vote.

Adventure Puketi, a big thank you to Ian and Justin who took a small group of us on a 2 hour night bush walk thru the Puketi Forest track. We saw beautiful scenery, waterfalls, Kauri Tree and to everyones delight, a Bat. As the evening turned to dusk walking thru the forest was surprisly warm and visibility was fine until we got deep into the forest. Torches provided we continued, down to a beautiful clear stream where there were little fresh water crayfish, eels, fish, and then up again to look for insects. There are many native animals in the forest, Kiwi of course, and I have never seen a Kauri Snail before.
A must for Nature lovers, as the guides have so much knowledge about the forest and enjoy showing you thru this delightful, protected environment.
